This 18th century Italianate house is located on an island on Derwent Water in the Lake District. The property is in the ownership of the National Trust but is leased by our client; he wanted to make alterations to the house to suit his family without compromising its historic character or the unique location.
Our design also needed to satisfy the National Trust's strict criteria and demonstrate sensitivity to the setting within the National Park.
In this instance, the challenge was to rationalise the interior and provide the additional facilities you would expect in a modern building. Through subtle design and historically accurate specification the alterations enhance the existing house without drawing attention. Our client can now comfortably accommodate additional guests and host larger scale social events.
