The lodge at the entrance to Llandaf (or Insole) Court dates back to the 19th century and is listed by Cardiff Council as a building of local interest. Now in private hands as a house in it's own right. The owner decided to further refurbish the building and extend it to provide a new kitchen and additional bedroom.

In this instance our client had already made a planning application and had it refused by the Council. We were able to respond to the initial 'grounds for refusal' and in discussion with the planning department produce a design that satisfied both them and our client.

We feel the alterations improve the existing house but also not detract from the original appearance of the lodge. The idea is that the new part is distinct from the original (through the use of render) but through careful detailing sits comfortably with the Victorian Lodge.
