This is a good example of the potential within a typical detached house to be adapted to better suit modern life. We were approached by the owner to advise them on how to improve the internal layout of the house and extend it to create a combined kitchen and dining area. The result was a design that improved the existing interior and created a link out into the garden.

This was achieved by opening up and extending out with a room that had folding glass walls on two sides. We also extended out to the side to accommodate a utility, bathroom and storage space.

The client was particularly keen to allow more daylight into the house; the result is an open plan space with rooflights above that opens out onto a terrace. This room also works as a link between the kitchen and utility and allows borrowed daylight into each of these spaces.
