The proposals solved three major issues; it increased the size of the kitchen to better suit the scale of the house; the new glazing brought in daylight and created a view of the garden; the upper mezzanine level now links the two wings of the house. The circulation now works well and the main space has a far more open feel.
A major landscaping exercise has also been carried out to the rear garden; this has helped by creating stepped terraces in slate, timber and stone to form seating areas and also improve the rear aspect of the house.
