Heath Halt

Our design for the ground floor of the house involved an extensive refurbishment and a new rear extension. Within the existing footprint, a new utility and shower room are included. Beyond them the old kitchen was demolished and replaced with a new open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area. Off the sitting area is a small study.

The predominant feature of the design is the way that the pitch of the roof and the new floor levels follow the natural gradient of the garden. The cross section therefore follows the natural slope of the site by splitting the open plan area between two levels. The lower level then opens out onto a patio that drops again to the lower rear garden.

Bi-fold doors with an adjoining roof window brings in natural light to the lower level of the main space. This is augmented by additional rooflights on the upper level to light the kitchen and dining areas.
