Our client wanted to expand their living space without moving from their attractive two storey Victorian property in Pontcanna, Cardiff, and so they approached us for advice.
We produced a design for a significant extension to the rear and side with improvements to the remaining interior. With the new extension we created a much larger kitchen, dining room and an open plan family room.
To bring light into the house, we used a glass roof to the side with the rear wall replaced by a sliding/folding door. The glass roof and the sliding/folding doors are double glazed with low-E self cleaning glass. The benefits of Low–E glass is to allow natural light in but reflect a significant portion of short-wave heat energy; in the summer, long-wave heat energy is reflected back outside; in winter, long-wave heat energy is reflected back in.
